NeighborWoods

Communities Working Together to Plant and Care for Their Trees

NeighborWoods seeks to bring the benefits of trees and community action to the public places of Sacramento County. The program provides education and tree planting opportunities to thousands of people every year, ensuring a legacy of green parks and schools for generations to come.

Activities

NeighborWoods offers expertise and tools for community plantings throughout the year on both private and public locations including:

Schools

One of our most rewarding activities is working with school children to plant and care for trees on their own campuses. Teachers, PTA groups, and maintenance personnel often take the lead in arranging for a successful event and assure that the required follow up is given to the trees. But the real diggers are the children, who learn how and why to plant a tree and then get their hands dirty improving their school. After the planting the children care for their trees and watch them grow, providing long term learning for the students and teachers! More about NeighborWoods for schools...

Parks

Parks are some of the best places to grow monumental trees, and NeighborWoods provides trees for community plantings to make sure that parks are places for recreation and inspiration. Many park plantings take place on weekends with volunteers from Scout troops or neighborhood groups.  More about NeighborWoods for parks...

Neighborhoods

We work with neighborhood organizations and involved community members to help residents build the best urban forests in their communities. While planting front yard and street trees helps improve the livability of neighborhoods and increases property values, the greatest benefit of neighborhood plantings is the strengthening of the community that happens when neighbors work together to improve their neighborhood.
